What screening tests are done during pregnancy?

During your first trimester, we will use a urine culture to screen you for hepatitis B, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and rubella. You will also have your first ultrasound to evaluate how far along you are and when you are due.

During your second trimester, you will be offered a quad screen (or AFP4), which tests for Down syndrome and other chromosomal disorders. You will also have a second ultrasound to evaluate the baby’s anatomy and a glucose screen to evaluate you for gestational diabetes.

During your last trimester, you will be screened for GBS (group B strep).
