Genetic Counseling and Screening

Genetic counseling involves the assessment of risks for birth defects and genetic diseases, and patient education about diagnostic procedures and testing options. Genetic counselors train through a master's degree program in human genetics and counseling and are board certified by the American College of Genetic Counseling.

We may recommend genetic counseling for a variety of reasons including history of genetic conditions or infertility.  We work closely with the major genetic health care companies in our area to ensure that our patients have access to the latest genetic testing as well as a variety of other genetic services such as patient education about testing options and birth defect risks.

Referrals to a genetic counselor are made in accordance with a patient's health insurance plan and  genetic counseling appointments are often coordinated with maternal-fetal medicine or obstetric visits.
